Level 4 Intensive Sports Massage Course - Coventry


This Level 4 qualification has been curated by ProActive Training in association with the Sports Therapy Organisation (STO).


The qualification will afford you a fantastic opportunity to gain excellent manual techniques, including Soft Tissue Release, MET’s, Trigger Pointing and other massage techniques. The qualification will enable you to practise independently as a Sports Massage Therapist, treating pathological tissue and will arm you with the necessary skills to work in a professional sporting capacity or in private practice from the moment you qualify.

Students receive access to a bespoke online learning package with over 15 hours worth of video content along with 3 days hands-on teaching that which will arm students with all the techniques to tackle injury management.

What can a Sports Massage Therapist do?

The qualification will arm you with the necessary skills to work in a professional sporting capacity or in private practice from the moment you qualify. Students who have qualified through ProActive Training have gone on to pursue careers on a sporting platform, including positions with Arsenal FC, Charlton Athletic FC, Aston Villa FC, Middlesbrough FC, USA Track and Field, Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Association, London Triathlon, Harlequins RFC and many more.


What does the course cover?

This broad and in-depth qualification encompasses the treatment of over 35 sporting injuries and will include the following:

All massage techniques, including deep friction

•             Muscle Energy Techniques (MET’s)

•             Myofascial release techniques

•             PNF stretching

•             Soft Tissue Release (STR)

•             Trigger pointing/Neuromuscular techniques

•             Passive stretching

•             Introduction to rehabilitation and exercise prescription

•             Pre and post event massage


Course Assessment

  • Level 3 formative assessment on day 2 to assess massage techniques, including effleurage, petrissage, pre and post event massage.

  • Level 4 summative practical assessment on the afternoon of the final day of the course. 

  • Multiple-choice theory exam to be completed by 4 weeks after the course.

  • Case studies to be completed by 4 weeks after the course.

Undergraduate and Postgraduate Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Sport Scientists, Strength and Conditioning Coaches and Personal Trainers

  • Intensively taught over 3 days

  • 5 Case Histories to be completed

  • Practical assessment on the final day of the course
